Privacy Policy

We collect information in three ways:

A. Information You Provide

• Account registration — name, email address, phone number, and password when you create an account.
• Business listings — business name, address, phone, website, hours, description, and images when you claim or submit a business to the Guide.
• Event submissions — event details, venue information, and images when you submit an event.
• Posts and replies — content you submit as free or paid community posts, and any replies you send or receive.
• Newsletter signup — email address when you subscribe to our weekly newsletter.
• Payment information — billing details when you purchase a paid service. Payment card data is processed directly by Stripe and is never stored on our servers.
• Communications — messages you send us via email or support requests.

B. Information We Collect Automatically

• Location data — when you visit the Site, we automatically attempt to detect your approximate location using your IP address in order to suggest relevant local content. If you grant browser location permission, we may use your precise coordinates to refine results. You can decline browser location permission at any time in your browser settings.
• Cookies and local storage — we use cookies and browser storage to remember your selected locality (via the fpx_locality and related cookies), maintain your session, and improve site performance. See Section 6 for more detail.
• Usage data — pages visited, links clicked, search queries, filters applied, time spent on pages, and referring URLs.
• Device and browser data — browser type, operating system, device type, screen resolution, and IP address.
• Ad interaction data — impressions and clicks on ad campaigns served through the Site.

C. Information from Third Parties

• Scraped public data — event listings are sourced from publicly available websites and calendars using automated collection tools operated by FrontPorchx. This data may include event names, dates, venues, descriptions, and images that are publicly posted by event organizers.
• Geocoding data — address and coordinate data provided by Geocodio when processing location information.
• Map and location data — location context provided by Mapbox when you use map features or location-based filtering.

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its features.
• Personalize your experience by surfacing local events, businesses, and posts relevant to your selected locality.
• Detect your approximate location on visit to suggest a relevant community area.
• Process payments for paid services including business subscriptions, paid posts, and ad campaigns.
• Send transactional communications related to your account, purchases, and platform activity (via our internal systems and ClickSend for SMS).
• Send our weekly newsletter to subscribers (via Postmark).
• Deliver SMS messages to users and business followers who have opted in, via ClickSend.
• Display hyperlocal advertising campaigns to users in targeted localities.
• Enrich event content using AI processing via OpenAI to improve listing quality and discoverability.
• Store and serve images via Cloudinary.
• Monitor platform usage, detect abuse, and enforce our Terms of Service.
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

• Service providers — we share information with third-party vendors who help us operate the Site, including Supabase (database and authentication), Stripe (payments), ClickSend (SMS), Postmark (newsletter email), Mapbox (maps), Cloudinary (images), Geocodio (geocoding), and OpenAI (content enrichment). These providers are contractually restricted from using your data for any purpose other than providing services to us.
• Advertisers — advertisers who run campaigns on FrontPorchx receive aggregated, non-identifying performance data (impressions and clicks). We do not share personally identifiable information with advertisers.
• Business owners — if you reply to a paid post via SMS, your phone number may be shared with the business owner who posted the listing, subject to your consent at the time of reply.
• Legal compliance — we may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of FrontPorchx, our users, or the public.
• Business transfers — in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via the Site or email if this occurs.

FrontPorchx uses cookies and similar browser storage mechanisms for the following purposes:

• Locality preference — cookies such as fpx_locality and fpx_state store your selected community area so you don't have to re-select it on each visit.
• Session management — authentication tokens that keep you logged in during a session.
• Performance and analytics — usage data to help us understand how the Site is used and where to improve.

We do not use cookies for cross-site behavioral advertising. Most browsers allow you to control or disable cookies in their settings. Disabling cookies may affect your ability to use certain features of the Site, including locality-based personalization.

When you visit FrontPorchx, we automatically attempt to detect your approximate location using your IP address. This is used solely to suggest a relevant local community area and is not stored as a persistent profile. If you grant browser location permission, we may use your precise coordinates to refine event and guide results within the Site session. Precise location data from your browser is not stored on our servers beyond the active session. You can revoke browser location permission at any time in your device or browser settings.

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Event listings, business listings, and posts may be retained indefinitely as part of the community record. Payment records are retained as required by law and Stripe's data retention policies. If you wish to request deletion of your personal data, contact us at support@frontporchx.com and we will respond within 30 days. Note that some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes even after a deletion request.

FrontPorchx integrates the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy practices:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and row-level security. Your account credentials and platform data are stored in Supabase. Privacy Policy
• Stripe — payment processing. Card data is handled entirely by Stripe and is not stored on our servers. Privacy Policy
• ClickSend — SMS delivery for opt-in business broadcasts and post reply notifications. Privacy Policy
• Postmark — newsletter email delivery for subscribers. Privacy Policy
• Mapbox — map rendering and location-based features. Privacy Policy
• Cloudinary — image storage and delivery. Privacy Policy
• Geocodio — address geocoding and coordinate resolution. Privacy Policy
• OpenAI — AI-powered enrichment of event listing content. Event data (not personal data) is processed by OpenAI to improve listing quality. Privacy Policy

SMS. If you opt in to SMS communications — either as a user receiving post reply notifications or as a follower of a business — your phone number will be used to deliver those messages via ClickSend. You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. Message and data rates may apply.

Newsletter. If you subscribe to the FrontPorchx newsletter, your email address will be shared with Postmark solely for the purpose of delivering our weekly email digest. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any newsletter email. We will not share your email address with any other third party for marketing purposes.

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include row-level security policies on our database, encrypted data transmission via HTTPS, and access controls on our infrastructure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

FrontPorchx is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@frontporchx.com and we will delete it promptly.

• Access and correction — you may update your account information at any time by logging in to your account settings.
• Locality preference — you can clear your selected locality at any time by clearing cookies in your browser.
• SMS opt-out — reply STOP to any SMS message to opt out of future messages.
• Newsletter unsubscribe — click the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email.
• Data deletion requests — contact us at support@frontporchx.com to request deletion of your personal data. We will respond within 30 days. Some data may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
• Browser location — you can deny or revoke location permission in your browser or device settings at any time.

If you are a Virginia resident, you may have additional rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, and obtain a copy of your personal data, and the right to opt out of the processing of your personal data for targeted advertising. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information. This section describes those rights and how to exercise them.

Categories of personal information we collect include identifiers (name, email, phone, IP address), commercial information (purchase history), internet or network activity (pages visited, clicks), geolocation data (approximate location from IP address), and inferences drawn from the above to understand your preferences.

Your California rights:

• Right to Know. You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, our business purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
• Right to Delete. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions required by law.
• Right to Correct. You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
• Right to Opt Out of Sale. We do not sell your personal information. You do not need to opt out.
• Right to Non-Discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.

To exercise your California rights, contact us at support@frontporchx.com. We will respond to verifiable requests within 45 days. We may extend this period by an additional 45 days when reasonably necessary and will notify you of any extension.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you via the Site or by email. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
